USTP Panaon students turn marine waste into winning innovation

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon) proudly secured the 2nd Runner-Up position at the USTP Collider Cup Systemwide Pitching Competition on August 15, 2025, at the Performance Arts Theatre in the Engineering Complex at USTP Cagayan de Oro.

CharruMinds, a team of second-year Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education students majoring in Home Economics and Industrial Arts, comprised of Sarah-Rona S. Daga-ang, Juliah Lis D. Sanchez, Dimple Angel Velasco, Roland Cainglet Jr., and Star Marie V. Malone. The team took a creative approach to sustainability with their inventive dessert that used underutilized marine resources. More than just a treat for the taste buds, their creation provided a tasty and sustainable experience that addressed a local environmental issue while appealing to adventurous food lovers.


The USTP Collider Cup Systemwide Pitching Competition continues to be a platform for developing the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. The event showed the university’s strong commitment to creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. It also highlighted the dedication of all participating teams to building a more sustainable future. The success of the competitors reflects the talent and creativity within the USTP System.
The event was organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) of the USTP System. CET supports innovation and entrepreneurial goals by giving students a strong platform to present their ideas and business skills.
