According to UI GreenMetric, the initiative aims to promote sustainable development worldwide through rigorous assessment methodologies.

The 2026 assessment covered seven categories, each assigned a specific weight: Setting and Infrastructure (SI) – 11%, Energy and Climate Change (EC) – 20%, Waste Management (WS) – 17%, Water Management (WR) – 11%, Transportation (TR) – 17%, Education and Research (ED) – 13%, Governance and Digitalization (GD) – 11%.

These categories evaluate universities’ environmental practices, resource management, campus mobility, sustainability education and research, and institutional policies supporting sustainability.
