In championing research and innovation, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) has secured funding from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) for a new research project entitled “aiRack: AI-Driven Hybrid-Powered Smart Data Cabinet with Intelligent Thermal and Power Management for Sustainable IT Operations.”

The project is led by Dr. Franch Maverick A. Lorilla as Project Leader, in close collaboration with Dr. Varela as Project Staff, Engr. Alex Maureal and Engr. Lemuel Duhaylungsod, a PhD in Energy Engineering student, actively engaged in the research implementation.

This PCIEERD-funded initiative is a pioneering, AI-focused project under both the ICT and Electronics and Energy sectors. The project integrates artificial intelligence, hybrid energy systems, and intelligent thermal and power management to develop a smart data cabinet that enhances energy efficiency and operational reliability.

Beyond technological innovation, the project significantly strengthens USTP’s PhD in Energy Engineering program by embedding a DOST-funded research project within the program’s research ecosystem. This elevates the program toward DOST-fundable and nationally competitive research standards, while providing advanced research exposure and training for doctoral students.

Furthermore, a successful Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing of USTP led by Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II with DOST-PCIEERD was formalized on December 11–12, 2025, at DOST-PCIEERD Science Community Complex in Manila, Philippines, with the ceremonial signing held on December 11, 2025, and Project Management Information System (PMIS) training on December 12, 2025.

The fund grant and official partnership of USTP and DOST-PCIEERD bolsters the scientific foundation while highlighting USTP’s commitment to interdisciplinary and high-impact research.
