The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) strengthened its Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives by participating in the GFPS Convention 2025, held on September 1–3, 2025, at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria. With the theme “Reaping Gains, Celebrating Milestones, and Strengthening the Roles of GFPS for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment,” the convention highlighted collective efforts toward advancing gender-responsive governance and fostering inclusive development.

USTP CDO was represented by Dr. Maria Teresa M. Fajardo, GAD Focal Person & Director of ECRD, Dr. Jocylen B. Barbosa, GFPS Member & the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Grace Pimentel, GFPS Member & the Dean of CSTE. From USTP Claveria Campus, participants included Mr. Glenfford Esparcia, GAD Focal Person and Director of ECRO, and Dr. Lindylou M. Yamuta, GFPS Member & Director of Student Affairs of USTP Claveria.

The three-day convention gathered GFPS members nationwide to share best practices, build partnerships, and engage in discussions on advancing gender and development. The Philippine Commission on Women highlighted the event as a milestone in strengthening the collective commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

By actively participating in this convention, USTP reaffirms its commitment to integrating GAD principles into its programs, policies, and advocacies. The insights gained further inspire the university to nurture a more inclusive and equitable academic community—one driven by collaboration, shared vision, and lasting impact.
