USTP strengthens global presence as GEM director receives best paper award

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) continues to make its mark on the global stage as Dr. Ramir Philip Jones V. Sonsona, Director of Global Engagement and Mobility (GEM), was recognized as one of the co-authors of a best paper at the 5th International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH 2025). The conference was held from June 16 to 20, 2025, at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Cavite, Philippines.

Dr. Sonsona worked alongside Ms. Rachma Bhakti Utami of Politeknik Negeri Malang, Indonesia (lead author), and Ng Yen Phin of Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Their paper was selected for its contribution to the conference theme, “Responsible Tourism for Sustainable Transformation and Inclusive Societies.” The international gathering, organized by the Sarawak Research Society, Responsible Borneo, and LPU, brought together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to exchange ideas and best practices in sustainable tourism. It also featured keynote talks, workshops, and the Responsible Tourism Awards 2025.


This international recognition highlights USTP’s strong commitment to advancing research, innovation, and international collaboration that supports sustainable development. Dr. Sonsona’s success reflects the university’s mission to empower communities through education and responsible global engagement—moving closer its vision of becoming a leading science and technology institution that drives inclusive and transformative growth.
