USTP Villanueva empowers women through technology and health extension programs

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental (USTP Villanueva), through its Gender and Development Office and Extension and Community Relations Division, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Villanueva and the Rural Health Unit of Villanueva, successfully conducted an 8-hour empowering activity featuring two extension programs: JuanaTech Bridge: Empowering Women in Technology-Oriented Communities and Kalinga para kay Juana: A Women’s Health and Wellness Extension Program on March 6, 2026.
The celebration brought together students, faculty, staff, and women residents of Villanueva for a day of leadership sessions, panel discussions, digital skills and career development seminars, booths and bazaars, a film screening, and free health screenings and consultations.
Speakers for the morning health and wellness sessions from the Rural Health Unit included Regine D. Jamesolan im (RN), Erma P. Mar (RN), Dr. John Myco E. Ermac, and Michael Vincent M. Gadiane.
In the afternoon, empowerment and development sessions featured speakers such as Ms. Lizzie Bacor, Mr. Julito B. Ygonia, Jr., Ms. Lheida Mariz L. Barraccao, Mrs. Jessa E. Nercuit, and Ms. Norvilyn M. Malingin.
The event concluded with a meaningful film screening and documentaries showcasing inspiring success stories of women, alongside the HER STORY gallery, which reinforced the importance of resilience, equality, and empowerment, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality.
This celebration was implemented through a collaborative community extension approach that brought together university experts, local government partners, and health professionals. Activities included ceremonial launch events, interactive learning sessions, panel discussions, digital skills and career webinars, women-led booths and bazaars, film screenings, and free health screenings and consultations facilitated by the Villanueva Rural Health Unit.
