The faculty members of the Electro-Mechanical Technology (EMT) program of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental (USTP Villanueva), completed an intensive hands-on training on the FESTO Modular Production System (MPS) from November 12-14, 2025, at the EMT Laboratory, USTP Villanueva. This training strengthens the campusโ€™ capacity to deliver industry-aligned instruction in automation and smart manufacturing.

The FESTO MPS is an industrial-grade teaching platform that simulates automated production lines commonly used in modern manufacturing. Through this training, EMT faculty enhanced their skills in operating, analyzing, and integrating various MPS stations to replicate real-world automated processes.

The training covered four key stations of the Modular Production System:

According to Engr. Jenalyn S. Ihong, EMT Program Head of USTP Villanueva, the training is a strategic step in preparing students for the demands of Industry 4.

โ€œBy equipping our faculty with hands-on experience on the FESTO Modular Production System, we ensure that our students are exposed to technologies comparable to those used in actual industrial production lines. This will significantly enrich our laboratory activities in Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Programming and Interfacing, Machine Vision, and Robotics,โ€ Engr. Ihong said.

USTP Villanueva plans further to integrate the FESTO MPS into its laboratory exercises to allow students to operate, analyze, and synchronize multiple stations within a unified automated process. This initiative supports the universityโ€™s commitment to producing graduates who are competent, industry-ready, and responsive to the evolving needs of the manufacturing and automation sectors
