USTP Villanueva prepares students for an industry-ready future through hard hatting and pinning ceremony

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental (USTP Villanueva) formally recognized its students into their professional journey through the 2nd Hard Hatting and Pinning Ceremony held on January 28, 2025, at the USTP Villanueva Event Area, strengthened by the themed “Celebrating Excellence, Commitment, and the Journey Ahead,” served as a powerful rite of passage for students preparing for their industry internships.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of key university officials, Campus Director Prof. Colbert G. Rabaya, Campus Registrar Dianna Fe S. Bartolome, LPT, MBM, MPSM, and Academic Head Evans Rosauro I. Yonson, alongside the dedicated program heads, faculty, and staff whose direct mentorship was instrumental in preparing the students for this pivotal step.
Prof. Rabaya framed the day as a “threshold moment” for the students, marking their transition from academic training to professional application. He eloquently explained the profound symbolism of the ceremony’s dual rituals. For Electro-Mechanical Technology students, the hard hat signifies “the grit, the physical labor, and the high-stakes responsibility” of their field. For Information Technology and Technology Communications Management students, the pin acts as “a badge of professional identity,” signifying their role as ambassadors of information and digital strategy.
In his speech, which served as a direct charge to the interns, Prof. Rabaya offered crucial guidance for success. He outlined key “Dos” such as being a “sponge” for workplace wisdom and asking “why” to foster innovation, and important “Don’ts” to remember. He concluded with a resounding vote of confidence: “You belong there… When you put on that hat or fasten that pin, remember the late nights studying… Go out there, work hard, stay safe, and make us proud.”
The event highlights USTP Villanueva’s commitment, through the unified effort of its administration, program heads, faculty, and staff, to providing an industry-responsive education that bridges academic theory with real-world application. By symbolically investing students with the tools and identity of their professions, the university reinforces the values of safety,integrity, and excellence they are expected to carry into their host training establishments and future careers.
