The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Villanueva (USTP Villanueva), through its Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) Team, presented four proposed research studies for the Sericulture Project on April 15, 2026, at the Provincial Capitol of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. The presentation was initiated by Campus Director Prof. Colbert G. Rabaya and delivered by Mr. Reymark-John Macapanas, Head of Research, Innovation, and Extension.

The proposed studies focus on the application of advanced technologies, including machine learning and neural network models, in key areas such as mulberry cultivation, silkworm gender classification, cocoon grading and product development, and the socio-economic implications of sericulture in Barangay Imelda, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

These research initiatives aim to provide data-driven insights to support effective project implementation and ensure long-term sustainability.

In collaboration with the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and partner agencies, USTP Villanueva continues to strengthen its role in advancing applied research and extension services, contributing to inclusive and community-driven economic development.
