Contest Mechanics

Mechanics for the

USTP MASCOT Design

Contest

The contest will undergo four stages:
  • STAGE 1. Submission of Entries
  • STAGE 2. Short Listing
  • STAGE 3. Selection of the Top 5 Designs by the Board of Judges
  • STAGE 4. Final Judging by the USTP Board of Regents
Participants are required to submit the following documents:
  1. Filled-out official entry form with a detailed description or explanation of the mascot (hard copy/online form)
  2. One-page resume of the participant
  3. Duly notarized certificate of originality

Entries with incomplete requirements shall be held ineligible.

GUIDELINES
  1. The contest is open to all students, personnel, and alumni of the USTP System. Entrants may compete individually or as a team with two to five members. The entrant/s must have reached the age of majority at the time of submission of the entry.
  2. The individual or group shall submit one (1) entry only. The excess shall be disqualified.
  3. Documents for each entry shall be submitted through the STRATCOMM email or physically at the STRATCOMM Office.
  4. Contestants must submit a one-page resume, a description or explanation of the mascot, and the symbolism behind its design and use of colors.
  5. The mascot should convey the following concepts which project the image of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.
    • A university of excellence in the fields of science and technology
    • A premier and globally competitive institution
    • A leading provider of thought leaders and innovators
  6. The top five (5) designs shall be chosen by the Board of Judges on the basis of the following:
    1. RELEVANCE. The entry is aligned with the concepts presented.
    2. ORIGINALITY. The composition exhibits original design, creativity, and innovation.
    3. AESTHETIC QUALITY. The entry catches attention and displays visual balance and color coordination. All the elements work together to create a unified and appealing design.
  7. The winning design shall be chosen with finality by the USTP Board of Regents.
  8. The chosen designs will be awarded the following prizes:
    • FIRST PRIZE – Php 20,000.00
    • SECOND PRIZE – Php 15,000.00
    • THIRD PRIZE – Php 10,000.00
    • CONSOLATION PRIZES (2) – Php 5,000.00
  9. The mascot design and concept must not be racially, sexually, morally, or culturally offensive.
  10. All submitted entries must be original and must not be derived from any pre-existing designs. All entries should not have been submitted to any other competitions and should not infringe any existing intellectual property rights such as trademarks, copyright, and industrial design. Participants must rigidly observe intellectual property rights law. In any case that a complaint arises due to similarities or likeliness of submitted entries with other designs, the participant shall be held accountable and responsible to prove the originality and authenticity of his work.
  11. All property rights including the entire trademark, copyright, industrial design, and other intellectual property rights relating to all entries shall become the sole and exclusive property of the University. The University may modify, alter, and/or adapt its use for any purpose it deems fit. The winning design will serve only to help the University in coming up with its official mascot. The University reserves the right to not make use of the winning design or any part thereof in the mascot finally adopted by the University.
  12. Contestants are required to fill out and submit together with their entries the official entry form which can be downloaded from the USTP website – www.ustp.edu.ph or obtained from the Strategic Communication (STRATCOMM) Office and the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO).
  13. The entries must be submitted to:

  14. Submitted entries constitute permission to use the winner’s name, the prize, and information provided on the entry form for publicity purposes without any remuneration.
  15. The timeline of the competition is as follows:
    • August 26, 2022 – Deadline for submission of entries
    • August 30, 2022 – Pre-selection/Short listing
    • August 31, 2022 – Selection of Top 5 by the Board of Judges
    • September 1, 2022 – Announcement of the Top 5 designs
    • September – Final Judging by the USTP Board of Regents
  16. Participants will be notified of the final results through email.

Contest

  • VIDEOKAY CHALLENGE
  1. Participants for the above-stated contests are limited to USTP employees only. The Campus Heads/Deans/Vice-Chancellors shall endorse their respective participants.
  2. Each Campus/College/Office shall submit the name/s of their representative/s for each contest to the Event Organizer on or before August 15, 2022.
    1. Dancesport – One Couple (Male & Female)
    2. USTP Next Top Model – One Male & One Female
    3. Videokay Challenge – One Male or One Female
  3. Videokay Challenge participants shall submit three (3) OPM songs to the Event Organizer. Among these, only one song will be performed during the competition. The criteria for judging are as follows:

  4. USTP Next Top Model (male and female) participants shall provide their outfits for both concept attire and formal wear. First Exposure – Concept Attire (Mindanao Festival Attire/Regional Cultural Attire). Second Exposure – Formal Wear (Long Gown and Formal Wear). The criteria for judging are as follows:

  5. The Dancesport representative/couple (composed of 1 male and 1 female) will perform two dances—the Cha-cha-cha and the Jive. The costume of each Couple must adhere to the required/prescribed style of the Event Organizer. Daring attire will not be accepted. The couples will perform a 90-second dance per category/dance. The Event Organizer will provide the music ahead of time. Lifting is prohibited. The Criteria for judging are as follows:

  6. Only the USTP Next Top Model and Dancesport competitors are advised to attend the general rehearsal a day before the competition.
  7. Competitors will not be allowed to join the competition if they are under the influence of liquor.
  8. All participants must attend a final briefing via Zoom three days before the contest (August 15, 2022). The Strategic Communication Office (STRATCOMM) will provide the Zoom link.
  9. The Event Organizer will identify the Board of Judges for each competition/category.
  10. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
