USTP PRAISE Awards held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel

To acknowledge and celebrate the services, ideas, and performance contributions of its employees in research, innovation, and extension, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) held the 2021 USTP PRAISE Awards at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel on May 3, 2022. The event was organized by Dr. Ismael N. Talili, Director of the Research Office, USTP Cagayan de Oro, and Chairperson of the USTP Suggestion and Incentive Awards Committee.

The Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence or PRAISE Awards is open to all teaching and non-teaching employees of the USTP System, including the individuals from the Suggestion and Incentive Awards Committee (SIAC). In addition, any regular employee of the University may nominate a deserving employee underscoring the distinctive features of their accomplishments that make the nomination stand out from others, such as the achievements and accolades they have received and the contributions or impacts they have made.

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System President, opened the celebration by welcoming everyone who has dedicated their time, efforts, and life to the fulfillment of the shared vision for the University. Dr. Cultura reminisced on the challenging journey that the University had gone through, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 until the present.

Dr. Cultura also took pride in taking the necessary steps toward the University’s development, saying,

“The path we took was not easy but look where it brought us. It brought us together, it brought us that positive change we need, and it brought us to greater heights.”

He adds that the university would not be where it is today without everybody’s commitment to the USTP community’s shared goal.

“You are all the reason that we were all able to push forward development not only to the University but also to the region as well,” he said.

Dr. Cultura ends his message, urging everyone to continue striving toward excellence.

“It is my hope that you continue to pursue excellence in all that you do and remain committed [to] fulfilling our shared vision. We have, together, made great strides already. That means we are on the right track…. My congratulations to all of you for a job well done. You deserve all the recognition as you are the reason we have achieved so much. [The] USTP System is proud of all that you do. And this is just the start of many more accomplishments that we will together achieve.”

The event was also graced by the presence of the CHED Commissioner and USTP Board of Regents Chairperson, Hon. Jo Mark M. Libre, DPA, shared a few words of inspiration.

“We must also remember that we have gathered here today not only to celebrate the achievements of these employees but also to give regard to our values and morals, which these awardees exemplify, such as discipline, compassion, and commitment,” Commissioner Libre shared.

“Ang pasasalamat at pagbibigay parangal sa ating mabubuting empleyado ay dalawa lamang sa mga paraan upang mahikayat na lahat na magsumikap pa lalo sa kanilang mga larangan. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit ang programang ito ay ipinatupad at isinasagawa,” he added.

Commissioner Libre also reminded everyone of the importance of staying enthusiastic in one’s work, keeping the desire and drive for growth, and ensuring that the organization has a plan for whatever may happen. With these traits imbibed in each member of the USTP community, he says that the University can achieve excellence.

Dr. Cecilia L. Pangan, Director of the Human Resource Management Office of the USTP CDO, led everyone in the prayer before meals. While everyone was enjoying their meal, the musically gifted members of the USTP CDO Sanghimig Chorale crooned the eventgoers with their renditions of popular OPM “Bongga Ka ‘Day” by Hotdog, “Nosi Ba Lasi” by Sampaguita, “Ikaw ay Ako” by Klarisse de Guzman and Morissette Amon, “Yakap sa Dilim” by Apo Hiking Society, “Ikaw Lamang” by Gary Valenciano, and “Ikaw Nga” by South Border, and Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love For You.”

After the dinner with entertainment, the most awaited part of the program started — the Awarding Ceremony. The USTP System President, Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, awarded the plaques of recognition to the recipients.
