One hundred farmers, technicians, students, and faculty underwent two-day training workshops on the Management of Falcata Under Misamis Oriental Condition on March 23-24, 2021 (Falcata growers) and March 25-26, 2021 (LGU technicians) at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines-Claveria Center for Lifelong Education, Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The training was organized by Agroforestry Department and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The training workshop participants were falcata seedling growers in Misamis Oriental. They are the beneficiaries of the CHED-NAFES Falcata Extension Project (Misamis Oriental). Other participants include the technicians from the municipal agriculture offices (MAOs), Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry (BSAF) students, and faculty.
The training workshop is a gateway to enable to share/ communicate research results to different stakeholders/ beneficiaries of the CHED Funded Research Program “Documentation and Assessment of Management Practices of Falcata (Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) Nielsen)-Based Agroforestry Systems in Northern Mindanao, Philippines”. This undertaking was initiated by the USTP Claveria and Cagayan de Oro City, Forest and Wetland Resources Research Development and Extension Center (FWRRDEC), and Mindanao State University-Naawan.

The Falcata Management training workshop will greatly help the falcata seedling growers and soon-to-be falcata farmers on establishing and managing quality falcata-based agroforestry systems. Through the training workshop, the participants acquired not only the knowledge and skills, but also, falcata seeds.
Dr. Richmund A. Palma, Program Leader (Principal Investigator), Ms. Nona Michelle T. Delada, Ms. Ma Hyzelahn P. Aseniero, and Mr. Rex C. Hilot facilitated the technical requirements of the training, including the arrangements of the Resource Persons. The speakers were Ms. Lydia E. Tiongco, Ms. Lourdes D. Agne, and Mr. Franklin T. Mara, all from FWRRDEC. The training was made possible through the support of the Commission on Higher Education.
