The DOST-PCIEERD Balik Scientist Program (BSP) and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and Extension (OVPRIE), conducted the Beyond the Data: BSP-USTP Workshop Series on October 12–14, 2026, at the College of Medicine (COM) AVR in USTP Cagayan de Oro. With the theme “Building Trustworthy and Reproducible Research from Samples to Decisions,” the workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of research methods, data quality, and data analysis.
The workshop featured Imelda L. Forteza, Ph.D., a Balik Scientist Fellow from the Australian National University and the University of California, Merced, as the resource person. The sessions covered the foundations of reproducible research in R, quality control and analytical workflows, and the interpretation of analytical results for biological conclusions and decision-making. The program also included an opening ceremony, consultation, and the announcement of special certifications.
Through this workshop, participants gained insights into producing reliable research results and using data to support sound decisions. The activity also highlighted the importance of accurate data, clear analysis, and research methods that other researchers can repeat and verify.
