Innovation Centers

The Department of Energy (DOE) has partnered with USTP Cagayan de Oro through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the establishment of an Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) on the campus. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9513, otherwise known as the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the law provides for the State to encourage and accelerate the exploration, development, and increase the utilization of renewable energy resources. In implementing this law, the DOE taps the academic institutions to be Affiliated Renewable Energy Centers (ARECs) in order to realize the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

The Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) serves as a Technology Hub for Innovations, R&D, and Support Services for the food industry in Northern Mindanao. Through the Center, expertise, relevant S&T services, infrastructure, and facility requirements, will be more accessible for the Food Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the countryside. The NMFIC brings innovation to the local MSMEs of the food processing industry. The NMFIC provides the following services: Technology Hub, Technical Consultancy and Advisory, Testing Laboratory, and Complementary Food Production.

The NorMMEIC will provide design, fabrication, innovations, training, and technical support services related to metalworking, including consultancy services and provision of incubator facilities for use for all industries, but shall prioritize MSMEs and major industries of Region 10. The NorMMEIC shall be the center for machinery design and fabrication for the priority industries primarily in Region 10 but shall also extend its services to the rest of Mindanao upon request. It will develop the design and fabrication of machinery and conduct training on basic and specialized courses.
