USTP announces call for nominations for new Board Members

The Committee for the Search for four (4) Prominent Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and two (2) Prominent Academicians for Appointment as Members of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) Board of Regents (BOR) is now ready to accept nominations.

As stipulated in Republic Act No. 10919 – an act establishing the USTP after the amalgamation of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Cagayan de Oro City and the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental – the governing board of the University shall be the Board of Regents, among which includes four prominent Chief Executive Officers and two prominent Academicians.

RA No. 10919 details that the President of the Philippines shall appoint those mentioned above from a list prepared by the University President – in consultation with the Chairperson and other members of the USTP Board of Regents – based on the standards and qualifications of the position. The appointed CEOs and academicians shall serve for a term of four (4) and two (2) years, respectively.

In relation, a Search Committee, which was constituted by the Board of Regents, shall take charge of recruiting, consulting with potential candidates, and recommending to the Board through the University President for appointment by the President of the Republic of the Philippines as mandated by law. The Search Committee shall also conduct a thorough background check of the candidates.

Generally, Nominees must be at least thirty-five (35) years old (with no age cap limit) at the time of the application. They must not have been convicted of any administrative offense or crime.

Any person or group may submit their nomination/s.

Nominees for the Prominent Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) position must be natural-born Filipino citizens. If the nominated CEO is of foreign descent, he/she shall be represented by a Filipino member of the corporation. Moreover, the Nominees must be a Chief Executive Officer (or any equivalent position carrying a different position title) of a duly recognized national or multinational private corporation. Also, the Nominees must have distinguished themselves in the field/s of mathematics, science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and advanced research and extension work in human resource development or must have entered into a partnership with the University.

Nominees for the Prominent Academicians position must be natural-born Filipino citizens. They must also be prominent academicians in the Philippines, whether in a private or public university or college, who have distinguished themselves in the field/s of mathematics, science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and advanced research and extension work in human resource development, through their publication and track record in research.

 For Academicians:

    • SEC Registration for Private HEIs / Republic Act for SUCs
    • Brief Profile of the University
    • Endorsement from the University President
    • Character and Work References (at least 4)

The deadline for submission of nominations is on October 15, 2022.
