Students from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal), brought pride to the university as Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) students Jamerex C. Quinco and Ivan Charles S. Alconde emerged as Regional Champions in the 4-H Reel Roots: Short Film Festival, held from April 14 to 16, 2026, in Ditucalan, Iligan City, as part of the 12th Regional 4-H Youth Camp and Agrilympics at KJJ Ville, Barangay Ditucalan.
Anchored on the theme “4-H IGNITES: Empowering Growth, Igniting Innovation, and Transforming Excellence through Smart Agriculture,” the event gathered young agriculturists from across Northern Mindanao.
Representing the USTP Balubal 4-H Club Chapter, the two students showcased their creativity and advocacy, reflecting the quality of agricultural education and student development fostered by the campus. Quinco and Alconde’s winning entry, aligned with the festival theme “The Face and Future of Agriculture,” captured compelling narratives of Filipino farmers and agricultural workers. Their film stood out for its authenticity and strong message, earning them the championship title.
Their achievement was formally recognized through a plaque of recognition awarded by the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region X.
The victory marks another milestone for USTP Balubal, reinforcing its commitment to producing globally competitive and socially responsive graduates, particularly in the field of agriculture. It also highlights the growing role of youth in promoting agricultural awareness through creative platforms such as filmmaking.
Following their regional win, Quinco and Alconde will represent Northern Mindanao in the national level of the competition, scheduled from August 27 to 30, 2026, in Bohol.
As they advance to the national stage, the students carry with them the pride of USTP Balubal, demonstrating the campus’s continued role in developing future leaders in agriculture.
