Students from the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) program of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal), brought pride to the campus after securing First Place in the 4-H Reel Roots: Short Film Festival held on April 9, 2026, via Google Meet.

Representing the USTP Balubal 4-H Club Chapter, Jamerex C. Quinco, a first-year BSA student, and Ivan Charles S. Alconde, a second-year BSA student, showcased their creativity and advocacy through a compelling short film aligned with this year’s theme, “The Face and Future of Agriculture.”

The competition highlighted authentic narratives rooted in agricultural life across the Philippines, shedding light on the realities, resilience, and contributions of farmers and agricultural workers. Through their winning entry, the students effectively captured the essence of modern agriculture while honoring its traditional foundations. Their film was presented during the Level Up 4-H Cagayan de Oro City-wide virtual selection for the Regional Youth Camp 2026, where it stood out among entries from various youth organizations. Following this achievement, Quinco and Alconde will represent Cagayan de Oro City in the upcoming 4-H Regional Competition, scheduled from April 13 to 17, 2026, in Iligan City.

The victory highlights the students’ talent in storytelling and media while underscoring the growing role of young agriculturists in advocating for sustainable farming and rural development. It also reflects USTP Balubal’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive and socially responsive students in the field of agriculture.
