USTP Claveria explores potential academe-industry partnership in agriculture

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) explored a potential partnership between the academe and industry following the courtesy visit of Dr. Agustin Mercado Jr. to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension on May 7, 2026. The meeting focused on possible collaborative initiatives in the field of agriculture, particularly in areas involving  research, innovation, and capacity-building programs.

Both parties discussed opportunities to strengthen linkages between the University and industry partners through knowledge exchange and practical agricultural applications.

University officials highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships that contribute to the advancement of agricultural development, research-driven solutions, and innovation initiatives beneficial to both the academic community and local stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mercado emphasized the value of collaboration between educational institutions and industry sectors in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing training opportunities for students, researchers, and partner communities.

The courtesy visit also served as an initial platform for the exchange of ideas on prospective joint activities and future engagements that may further support the University’s research and extension goals.

Through initiatives such as this, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension continues to strengthen institutional partnerships aimed at advancing innovation, community engagement, and sustainable agricultural development.
