A team of third-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal), showcased innovation and teamwork after securing the 2nd Runner-Up title during the Google Developer Groups on Campus (GDG-OC) USTP “iNNOVATE: A Solution Challenge.”

The team, composed of Wendel Tabid Lapura, Remart Gumahad Sanchez, Princess Lood Ong, and Paul Christian Saba Ravidas, represented Team IntelliSwine in the competition conducted from March to April 2026. The event featured a series of learning sessions, elimination rounds, and final project pitching activities designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice in technology and innovation. The elimination round was held on April 28, 2026, followed by the final pitching on April 30, 2026, via Zoom meeting.

Team IntelliSwine developed a project aimed at supporting swine production through digital innovation. Their proposed system focuses on improving feed management, growth monitoring, and production planning to help farmers make informed decisions and enhance productivity in the livestock sector.

According to the organizers, the program encouraged students to apply their technical knowledge in addressing real-world challenges while strengthening their communication and collaboration skills. The event was spearheaded by campus organizer Hannah Dennise Aque, with Engr. Lloyd Jhon Estampa, PECE, DTE, is serving as moderator.

Throughout the competition, participating teams attended learning sessions that gave them valuable knowledge about innovation, technology, and effective problem-solving strategies. These activities also challenged students to refine and improve their project concepts before presenting them to the panel of evaluators. During the final pitching, Team IntelliSwinem presented the features and objectives of their proposed system and confidently responded to questions from the panel.

Beyond demonstrating technical expertise, the competition also tested the team’s ability to communicate ideas effectively, collaborate under pressure, and deliver practical technology-driven solutions.

The achievement reflects the students’ dedication, creativity, and growing competence in the field of information technology, while further highlighting USTP Balubal’s commitment to producing innovative and industry-ready graduates.
