Students under the Literacy Training Service (LTS) program of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), actively participated in the two-day Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) Training conducted on April 23-24, 2026, at the campus library. The training aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills in providing emotional support and psychological care during times of crisis and distress.
The resource speaker for the activity, Ms. Fe Psychie Nival, LPT, RPsy, RPM, JD, emphasized the importance of mental well-being and highlighted the significant role of students as proactive agents of support within their respective communities. Through interactive discussions, simulations, and collaborative learning activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of empathy, active listening, and appropriate psychosocial response strategies applicable in real-life community situations. By participating in the training, students were empowered to respond compassionately and responsibly to individuals experiencing emotional and psychological challenges.
The successful conduct of the training marked another milestone in strengthening the capability of NSTP students to become responsive, compassionate, and community-oriented individuals committed to service and human welfare. The initiative forms part of the university’s broader commitment to promoting mental health awareness, resilience, and student empowerment through meaningful extension and training programs. By integrating psychosocial preparedness into campus activities, USTP Oroquieta continues to strengthen its advocacy for a supportive and responsive academic environment.
