Three trailblazing initiatives of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) are among those that were shortlisted as finalists in the Bett Asia Awards 2022 and invited to attend the awarding ceremony on October 11-12, 2022, in Bangkok, Thailand.

In total, the University submitted seven entries for this year’s seven categories at the said award-giving body. Here are the three entries that were shortlisted for the finals under the following categories:

The Game Changer Award – Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET)

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) founded the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (CET) to lead the entrepreneurial programs and activities of the university. CET’s programs were a big success in the university and are among the model pedagogies in inculcating experiential learning for students and faculty members alike. The Center is the Hub where regional innovation and entrepreneurship converge and foster while strengthening the linkage between the industry and the academe.

The Sustainability Award – Gulayan sa Kabalayan (GSK)

GSK (Gulayan sa Kabalayan/Gardens for Sustainable Kitchen) started as a COVID-19 pandemic response anchored on the principles of sustainable and inclusive development, in collaboration with the local community and select government and non government organizations, to establish urban community micro farm, whether at home or at an open space in a community, thereby promoting hyperlocal food production system for a more food secure, resilient, and sustainable urban community.

The Wellbeing Award – Human Information Management System (HIMS)

The USTP Healthcare Information Management System (HIMS) is an online health information system that allows health professionals to communicate and monitor the employees and students outside of the clinical setting through tele-consulting. One of its best features is telemedicine, the practice of consulting between patients and medical experts online. HIMS can generate e-documents, such as e-prescriptions, medical certificates, laboratory requests, and imaging studies requests that are supplied by physicians, as well as (PHR) that centralizes all client’s information, documents such as medical history, personal and social history, results or blood tests, consultation, or other medical reports.

Applicants submitted their entries online last August 31, 2022, through the Bett Asia website, which required a contextual narrative of not more than 250 words explaining how the person or organization demonstrated the award, its impact, and why such deserved the award. Included in the submission is a self-recorded 30 seconds to 1-minute video that explains the institution’s impact on education in the APAC Region since 2020.

The 2-day program on October 11-12 includes a leadership summit, expo, and awarding with the theme “Catalyst for Change.” The show is curated exclusively for educator leaders across schools, universities, and the education system. This will be a great opportunity for our representatives to experience global connection and learn the best practices and celebrate innovation globally and re-echo it to the university. This also brings prestige to the university as we further establish the innovation ecosystem across the campus, and strengthen our internationalization programs.

Bett Asia Awards is a Hyve event partnering with SEAMEO Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (RIHED), which aims to gather senior education leaders, educators, and innovators across the globe to share intelligence on how to improve learning in the 21st century.

KUDOS to our innovators!
