The University of Science and Technology of the Philippines (USTP) took a significant step towards promoting awareness and engagement in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an online orientation conducted on July 26, 2023. The USTP Ad hoc Committee for the SDG Initiatives organized the event, which was pen to all non-teaching personnel of the University and held via Zoom.

The orientation was well-received with a total turnout of over 230 personnel in attendance. Mr. Ryan M. Bestre, a consultant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), served as resource speaker for the event. In his role as an ADB consultant, Mr. Bestre has been supporting the Operations and Sustainable Development and Climate Change Departments in their efforts to conduct a comprehensive review of projects related to Paris Agreement Alignment.

The orientation coincides with the upcoming 7th Charter Day Celebration of USTP in August which plans to showcase various university initiatives that contribute to the pursuit of the 17 UN SDGs.

The event also marks the first in a series of planned orientations for all personnel and students aimed at deepening the awareness of the USTP community about the SDGs and encouraging active participation in SDG-related initiatives.

By spearheading this online orientation and involving the USTP community in the pursuit of the SDGs, the University is taking commendable strides towards fostering a sustainable and responsible future.
