The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental (USTP Jasaan) and the Commission on Human Rights Regional Office X (CHR-X) formalized a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) establishing the Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE) on July 9, 2026, at the USTP Jasaan campus. The partnership marks a significant milestone for the University as USTP Jasaan becomes the 10th higher education institution in Northern Mindanao to establish a Center for Human Rights Education.

The initiative reinforces USTP’s commitment to promoting human rights education, research, advocacy, and community engagement in collaboration with CHR-X.

USTP Jasaan Campus Director Dr. Ruel S. Salvador welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing human rights education through strategic institutional collaborations. Meanwhile, CHR-X Regional Director Atty. Jeanne Ivy F. Abrina underscored the importance of strengthening human rights awareness by working closely with higher education institutions to cultivate a culture of respect for human dignity and responsible citizenship.

During the program, Japeth A. Villanueva, Chief of the Promotion and Advocacy Division of CHR-X, presented an overview of the Center for Human Rights Education, highlighting its role in advancing human rights education, research, advocacy, and community outreach within the University and its partner communities.

The ceremony also featured the turnover of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and the Center for Human Rights Education Manual from CHR-X to USTP Jasaan. These resources will support the implementation of the University’s human rights education programs and related extension initiatives.

The establishment of the Center for Human Rights Education was facilitated through the partnership of the Technology Communication Management Department, headed by Ms. Ruthy Mae B. Valdez, further advancing USTP Jasaan’s efforts to promote inclusive education, uphold human dignity, and empower communities through human rights awareness.
