Fourth-year Bachelor of Food Processing Technology (BFPT) students from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), gained hands-on exposure to dairy processing, food safety, and industry operations during an educational visit to Aloran Dairy Farm in Banisilon, Aloran, Misamis Occidental, on September 28, 2026.

The educational visit aimed to connect classroom and laboratory learning with actual food industry practices. Students explored the dairy production process, from animal production and milking to milk handling, pasteurization, and dairy product processing. Farm owner Louis Vince Guantero and the farm staff also shared insights into the daily operations and management of the dairy enterprise.

Students were introduced to the farm’s Anglo-Nubian dairy goats and learned about feeding and milking practices. The visit also covered hygiene and sanitation measures, including proper handwashing, sanitation of milk containers and the milking area, and udder and teat hygiene to minimize the risk of contamination and infection.

During the milk processing demonstration, students observed the pasteurization and cooling processes used before milk is further processed into products such as bottled milk and yogurt. The activity emphasized the importance of personal hygiene, equipment sanitation, proper time-temperature control, and prevention of recontamination in maintaining food safety and product quality.

BFPT students gained practical knowledge of dairy production and processing while developing a better understanding of workplace practices in the food industry. The activity supports USTP Oroquieta’s efforts to provide experiential and industry-responsive education that complements students’ academic and laboratory training.
