USTP Oroquieta joins 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards Mindanao to gain insights on research and innovation

As an institution committed to academic excellence, research, and innovation the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) attended the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards (PFA) Mindanao Sub-National Competition held at Aya Hotel and Residences in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental on July 29, 2026. The event fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development.
The competition was graced by Misamis Occidental Governor Hon. Henry S. Oaminal, who also serves as Chairperson of the Regional Development Council–Region X (RDC-X) and the Mindanao Sub-National Committee (MNSC). The event featured an inspiring keynote address by Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, PhD, of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), emphasizing the vital role of innovation in advancing national development and global competitiveness. Participants also witnessed pitch deck presentations, technology demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions showcasing innovative solutions in health, agriculture, education, environmental sustainability, digital technology, and community development.
The program likewise highlighted the inspiring journeys of the 2025 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards finalists, including Engr. Mark Kennedy Bantugon, Mr. Jet Magnaye, and Dr. Cecilia O. Bucayong, who shared their experiences in transforming innovative ideas into impactful solutions. Their presentations provided valuable insights into the country’s innovation ecosystem and demonstrated the significance of research, collaboration, and commercialization in addressing societal challenges.
USTP Oroquieta recognizes the value of participating in national innovation initiatives that promote knowledge exchange, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The experience provided the university with meaningful opportunities to strengthen its innovation culture, gain insights into emerging trends and best practices, and explore future collaborations that will further enhance its research, extension, and technology development initiatives.
