USTP Claveria welcomes freshmen through Week of Welcome 2026

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) welcomed its incoming first-year students during the opening of Week of Welcome (WOW) 2026 on August 3, 2026, at the USTP Claveria Multi-Purpose Training Center. Carrying the theme, “Connect and Thrive: Building Your Foundation for Success,” the Week of Welcome introduces first-year students to the University’s academic programs, services, personnel, student organizations, and campus life as they begin their studies at USTP Claveria.
University officials, faculty members, and administrative personnel joined the students during the opening program. In his message, USTP Claveria Chancellor Dr. Renato O. Arazo encouraged the freshmen to make the most of their learning opportunities and build meaningful connections with their peers, mentors, and the University community.
Dr. Arazo shared the symbolism of three seeds: bamboo, palay (rice), and sunflower, representing resilience, humility, and hope. He reminded the students that success requires preparation and perseverance, while achievements should be accompanied by humility and gratitude. He also encouraged them to remain hopeful and focused on their goals despite challenges.
The Chancellor also emphasized the importance of developing not only knowledge and professional skills but also integrity, compassion, and responsibility. He encouraged the freshmen to take an active role in campus life and uphold the values of the University throughout their academic journey.
One of the highlights of the opening program was the Grand Entrance of the Freshmen, with students representing the College of Agriculture, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Engineering and Technology entering in their respective college colors and presenting chants and yells.
University officials, faculty members, and administrative personnel were also introduced to help students become familiar with the people and offices that will support them throughout their stay at the University. Performances by the Kalasi Dance Troupe and the USTP Band were also featured during the program.
Following the opening ceremony, the freshmen participated in Life Skills and Wellness sessions covering study strategies, time management, mental health and wellness, self-esteem, financial literacy, independent living, campus safety, and environmental responsibility.
The Week of Welcome continues with University and college orientation sessions, presentations of academic and student support services, campus familiarization activities, student organization showcases, and other activities. The celebration will culminate with the Dungganan Awards, which will recognize outstanding student organizations and leaders and honor outgoing student officers.
Through the Week of Welcome, USTP Claveria helps first-year students become familiar with University life, connect with the campus community, and prepare for their academic journey.
