The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Oriental (USTP Panaon), strengthened its commitment to innovation, intellectual property, and technology development through a Technology Promotion and Commercialization Planning and Coordination Meeting with the USTP Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO), Cagayan de Oro City.
The online meeting brought together Sir Christopher Balaba, Ma’am Leny Q. Anasco, Sir Jan James G. Arañas, and Sir Jed Ceballos to discuss and coordinate proposed activities related to technology promotion, intellectual property, innovation, technology transfer, and commercialization. The meeting provided an important platform for exchanging ideas, clarifying responsibilities, and establishing coordinated strategies for the effective implementation of future technology-related initiatives.
Among the major matters discussed were the proposed program of activities, target participants, logistical requirements, transportation, meals, supplies, budgetary considerations, and other provisions necessary for the successful implementation of the planned activities. Through the discussions, the participants were able to identify key requirements and establish a more organized approach to carrying out technology promotion and commercialization initiatives at the USTP Panaon Campus.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of increasing awareness of intellectual property protection and technology commercialization among students, faculty members, and researchers. The participants discussed the need to encourage the development and documentation of research outputs, innovative ideas, prototypes, creative works, and technologies that may have potential for intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and commercialization.
The active participation of the concerned personnel demonstrated the importance of faculty, campus, and university-office collaboration in building an innovation-oriented academic environment. Through continued coordination, USTP Panaon Campus aims to provide stronger support for innovators and researchers by promoting opportunities for mentoring, technical assistance, intellectual property protection, technology development, and potential commercialization.
The activity also contributes to the University’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. By strengthening institutional collaboration and promoting the responsible development and use of research and innovation outputs, the activity supports sustainable and inclusive innovation.
The Technology Promotion and Commercialization Planning and Coordination Meeting marks another step towards strengthening the innovation ecosystem of USTP Panaon Campus. Through continued partnership with TPCO and other university stakeholders, the campus seeks to transform research, creativity, and innovative ideas into meaningful technologies and solutions that can contribute to the development of the university and the wider community.
