USTP Panaon takes active role in DICT’s Enhanced Institutional Development Workshop

On December 19, 2023, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) Panaon actively participated as an Academe Partner in the Enhanced Institutional Development workshop held at the AYA Hotel and Residences in Clarin, Misamis Occidental, organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

The workshop primarily aimed to emphasize the significance and assess the establishment of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Council for the enhanced institutional development of Misamis Occidental.

While the initiative aimed to extend to all cities and municipalities within the province, the LGUs of Ozamis City, Oroquieta City, and the Municipality of Plaridel were chosen as the initial pilot locations. These local government units demonstrated strong enthusiasm for creating an ICT Council within their respective areas.

Participants engaged in insightful discussions covering crucial topics, including assessing the city/municipality’s readiness for the ICT Industry, infrastructure, business environment, and talent availability. The event saw active participation from ICT locals, city/municipal administration, digital freelancers, key industry players, the Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Science and Technology, TESDA, and academic institutions with their diverse perspectives.

The workshop extensively covered the introduction of different programs of DICT to support ICT Industries, the presentation of the model of an ICT Council, foundational management concepts, and diagrams essential for the establishment and operation of an ICT Council and the specific roles played by the three pillars of an ICT Council: The Government, the Academia, and Industry.

In conclusion, the DICT expressed hope for the commitment of each LGU to establish an ICT Council in the province in 2024 and to create a comprehensive roadmap to promote the ICT industry in each municipality/city for future investors.
