The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Claveria formally turned over two basketball backstop systems to the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) during its Monday Convocation on September 7, 2026, at the USTP Claveria University Gymnasium. The turnover was led by Hon. Dr. Reynante L. Salvaleon, Municipal Mayor of Claveria, and Dr. Renato O. Arazo, Chancellor of USTP Claveria, together with university officials, faculty, staff, and students.
The equipment, identified as SAM 245 floor-mounted backstop systems, is FIBA-certified and is expected to support basketball training, recreational activities, and future campus sports competitions.
During the ceremony, Chancellor Arazo expressed appreciation to the LGU of Claveria for supporting the University’s sports development initiatives. He emphasized the role of institutional partnerships in providing opportunities for students to develop their athletic abilities and personal skills.
“When we invest in sports, we are also investing in our students—their health, discipline, teamwork, confidence and ability to work together toward a common goal,” Arazo said.
Mayor Salvaleon likewise highlighted the importance of providing appropriate sports facilities to encourage youth participation and athletic development.
“We believe that supporting sports is supporting our youth. When we provide them with proper facilities, we give them an opportunity to develop not only their skills but also discipline, teamwork, and determination,” Salvaleon said.
The formal turnover was documented through a Certificate of Turnover, read by Mr. Gian Fritz Bihag, LGU Administrator, recording the transfer of the equipment from the municipal government to USTP Claveria.
USTP Claveria aims to strengthen its campus sports programs and provide students with improved opportunities for physical activity, athletic training, and competitive sports. The initiative also highlights the continuing collaboration between the University and the LGU of Claveria in supporting student development.
