Seventy (70) enthusiastic senior high school students from Malitbog and Kalilangan National High School have completed a comprehensive immersion program at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria), held from April 18 to April 27, 2024. The immersion program aimed to seamlessly merge theoretical knowledge with practical skills in the dynamic fields of agriculture, technology, and environmental science.

Dr. Renato O. Arazo, Chancellor of USTP Claveria, emphasized the program’s significance beyond academics, stating, “The immersion program transcends traditional learning boundaries. It is about fostering a profound connection between students and fields they are passionate about. Our aim is to ignite a spark of innovation and inspire the next generation of leaders in sciences and technology.”

The 10-day intensive immersion allowed students to integrate into the vibrant ecosystem of USTP Claveria’s expansive campus, known for its dedication to technological advancement and sustainable practices. Under the guidance of university experts and researchers, participants delved into hands-on experiences, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

Students actively engaged in various activities, from mastering agricultural practices such as crop rotation and sustainable farming techniques to exploring cutting-edge biotechnology and environmental conservation research. The program’s rich curriculum also featured workshops on frontier topics like drone technology, water resource management, and renewable energy solutions, showcasing USTP Claveria’s state-of-the-art facilities and its relentless pursuit for innovation.

In addition to equipping students with technical proficiency, the immersion program strongly emphasized cultivating essential soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills that are indispensable in navigating today’s complex professional landscape. The program’s culmination saw students delivering compelling presentations, articulating their learnings, and outlining strategies to implement them within their communities.
