USTP Alumnus graduates as valedictorian in Canada

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) proudly celebrates the international achievement of Engr. Marion Kristoffer (Kris) Lao, a Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Batch 2007, who was recently recognized as one of the Valedictorians of Bow Valley College in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, during its Spring 2026 Convocation held on June 17, 2026. Engr. Lao completed a Post-Diploma Certificate in Software Development under the School of Technology, earning the distinction of delivering the valedictory address during the ceremony.
According to Bow Valley College, Engr. Lao previously spent ten years in the Philippines building a successful career as a self-taught software developer while working with several multinational corporations. Seeking to strengthen his expertise with formal academic credentials, he pursued advanced studies in Canada while balancing his responsibilities as a devoted husband and father.
One of his family’s motivations for moving to Canada was to fulfill his daughter’s dream of experiencing snow for the first time. Looking ahead, he aspires to create meaningful software solutions that can contribute to advancements in the medical and renewable energy sectors.
During his valedictory message, he shared an inspiring reflection:
“What you choose to prioritize today will shape the direction of your life tomorrow. Stay humble in success, be grateful, and trust God’s guidance as you walk through life’s journey.”
Engr. Lao’s achievement exemplifies USTP’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates who continuously pursue excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning.
