The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) successfully culminated its 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration on March 30, 2026, at the Student Center. Anchored on the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas,” the celebration highlighted the University’s continued commitment to advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and gender-responsive education through its Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives. The activity aimed to raise awareness of gender issues while promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect within the academic community.
The event gathered faculty members, administrative personnel, support staff, and students, ensuring broad-based participation across the University. Participants engaged in discussions and activities designed to deepen their understanding of women’s rights, roles, and contributions to society. The celebration also served as a platform to encourage the integration of gender-responsive practices in both academic and administrative functions.
The successful implementation of the activity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, Extension and Community Relations Office (ECRO), Health Services, Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). This inter-office collaboration underscores USTP Claveria’s commitment to mainstreaming gender perspectives across its programs and services.
A key highlight of the celebration was a learning session on “Perimenopausal and Menopausal Health in Women,” delivered by Dr. Maria Magdalena A. Juan, an alumna of the former MOSCAT Laboratory High School. The session addressed an often under-discussed aspect of women’s health, providing insights into the physical, emotional, psychological, and social changes experienced during this stage of life. It also emphasized the importance of establishing supportive mechanisms within both workplace and academic environments.
Through this initiative, participants gained a deeper appreciation of gender-related concerns, particularly those affecting women across different life stages. The activity contributed to fostering a more gender-sensitive and responsive university environment.
Overall, the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration at USTP Claveria was successfully conducted and achieved its objectives. The event strengthened awareness of gender issues and reaffirmed the University’s dedication to promoting inclusivity, respect, and empowerment among its stakeholders.
USTP Claveria remains steadfast in its mission to uphold women’s dignity, support their well-being, and champion gender equality within and beyond the University community.
