Demonstrating its commitment to fostering patriotism and civic responsibility, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria), led by Chancellor Dr. Renato O. Arazo actively participated in the celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day organized by the Local Government Unit of Claveria on June 12, 2026. This year’s celebration carried the theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History), emphasizing the connection between the nation’s historical struggles, the freedoms enjoyed today, and the responsibility of shaping a better future for the next generation.

The commemorative program, spearheaded by Mayor Dr. Reynante L. Salvaleon and Vice Mayor Alfred A. Azcuna, brought together representatives from various national government agencies, local government offices, educational institutions, civic organizations, and community stakeholders in honoring the sacrifices and heroism of the country’s forefathers.

As one of the leading educational institutions in the municipality, USTP Claveria joined fellow participants in expressing solidarity and patriotism through the celebration, which highlighted the significance of preserving the nation’s freedom while inspiring citizens to contribute to nation-building and sustainable development.

A highlight of the program was the inspiring reflection delivered by Mr. Wardry June G. Baloyos of Dr. Gerardo Sabal Memorial National High School (DGSMNHS), a national champion in student journalism. In his message, he underscored the importance of understanding Philippine history as a foundation for responsible citizenship and meaningful participation in nation-building.

Through its participation, USTP Claveria reaffirmed its role in promoting values of patriotism, leadership, and social responsibility among students, faculty, and staff. The university continues to support initiatives that strengthen community engagement and cultivate a deeper appreciation of the country’s rich heritage and democratic ideals.

The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment among participating institutions and organizations to work together in preserving the legacy of freedom and advancing the aspirations of future generations, embodying the true spirit of Philippine independence.
