USTP Claveria marks 40th Commencement Exercises with 975 graduates

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) conferred degrees upon 975 graduates during its 40th Commencement Exercises held on July 2, 2026, at the USTP Claveria Multi-Purpose Hall. Carrying the theme, “USTP Toward a Century of Trailblazing Innovation for a Sustainable Global Future,” the ceremony celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2026 while encouraging graduates to become innovators, ethical professionals, and servant leaders committed to sustainable development.
The commencement exercises began with the Hooding Ceremony at the University Oval, led by Dr. Argin A. Gulanes, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services, followed by the academic procession. University officials, members of the Board of Regents, faculty members, local government officials, representatives from partner agencies, parents, and guests joined the celebration. The candidates for graduation were formally presented by Dr. Renato O. Arazo, Chancellor of USTP Claveria, who certified that the students had successfully completed all academic requirements prescribed by the University.
USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II formally confirmed the graduates and delivered the President’s Charge. He reminded the graduating class that earning a degree carries both privilege and responsibility, encouraging them to uphold the University’s values of excellence, integrity, innovation, and service as they begin their professional careers.
Serving as commencement speaker, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region X Regional Director Mark Lemuel L. Garcia challenged the graduates to embrace technological advancement while remaining grounded in ethical leadership and compassion.
“Do not fear artificial intelligence. Learn it. Master it. Use it responsibly. Let technology amplify your capabilities but never allow it to replace your humanity,” Garcia said.
He emphasized that innovation should always be guided by integrity, responsibility, and a commitment to improving lives.
The University also recognized graduates who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership. Gwendolien A. Perez, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, received the Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras Leadership Award for exemplary leadership and service to the University.
Leading the graduating class was Kesiya Prado Eduria, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a general weighted average of 1.26. She received the CHED UniFAST Academic Excellence Award and was granted Civil Service Eligibility under Presidential Decree No. 907.
The Congressman Bambi Emano Excellence Award, which included a medal and a ₱10,000 cash incentive, was conferred on the following Magna Cum Laude graduates:
- Macro Alfeo B. Maputol – Bachelor of Science in Social Work
- Glen U. Abecia – Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering
- Jeziel B. Enlawan – Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
- Leann Kaye C. Ladera – Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
- Kesiya Prado Eduria – Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
Representing the graduating class, Eduria delivered the valedictory address, encouraging her fellow graduates to use their education as a means to serve others and become instruments of hope and positive change.
The Class of 2026 comprised graduates from various academic programs, including Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Horticulture Management, Social Work, Hospitality Management, Information Technology, Food Processing Technology, Environmental Engineering, Agroforestry, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Technology and Livelihood Education, Agricultural Technology, Food Technology, and the Certificate in Agricultural Science program.
The ceremony concluded with the Graduates’ Pledge, Alumni Pledge, and the singing of the USTP Hymn, formally welcoming the Class of 2026 into the growing community of USTP alumni.
As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, the graduates carry with them the knowledge, skills, values, and resilience nurtured by USTP. Their achievements reflect the University’s continuing commitment to producing globally competitive professionals and trailblazers who will contribute to sustainable development through science, technology, and innovation.
Following the commencement exercises, graduates, faculty members, University officials, and guests gathered for the Testimonial Dinner, which featured fellowship, cultural performances, and expressions of gratitude in celebration of the University’s milestone 40th Commencement Exercises.
