USTP flaunts Innovation Exhibits

August 16, 2022 – Following the formal commencement of its 6th Charter Day Celebration, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) resumed its second-day celebration at the Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras (DRER) Memorial Hall, USTP Cagayan de Oro, by showcasing the initiatives and projects of the offices under the Innovation Cluster of the University, with the subtheme, “Convergence and Synergy Towards Sustainable Innovation.”

“We have come a long way. We started really slow… We stand in the direction of developing a university under a framework of innovation.” Atty. Dionel O. Albina, Chancellor of USTP Cagayan de Oro (CDO), said via Zoom as he welcomed the guest partners from various industries and agencies, emphasizing how USTP drives its development via a good innovation policy.

The gathering was attended by representatives from the University’s innovation cluster as they introduced their respective offices, including the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET), the Cagayan de Oro Business Incubation Technology Entrepreneurship and Startups (CDObites), the Extension and Community Relations Division (ECRD) of USTP CDO, the Northern Mindanao Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (NorMMEIC), the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC), and the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO) of the USTP System.

The University’s industry partners were also invited, including Best Friend Goodies, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the First Community Cooperative (FICCO), and the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Inc. (CEPALCO).

Engr. Alex L. Maureal, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation of USTP CDO, delivered the closing remarks. He said, “Through innovation, we can find ways, create something new, explore, and eventually we can compete globally.” Engr. Maureal also shared that faculty and students should pursue equipping themselves with knowledge in creating something new and innovative.

Succeedingly, the ribbon cutting for the exhibits of the Innovation Group took place and was led by Engr. Bronson G. Mabulay, Director of the Innovation and Technology Solutions Division of USTP CDO, and Mr. Jaime Rafael U. Paguio, the Executive Vice President of CEPALCO.

The said exhibit highlighted innovations that seek to encourage more students in making new and extra initiatives or projects. It also aims to support the efforts of innovators and bridge them with industry partners, benefiting the University and the community in general.
