“As leaders, may we all be reminded that, regardless of our leadership position, in order for us to excel more and do more in our respective duties and better serve our stakeholders, we need to continue our lifelong learning.” – Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System President

Joined by the Management Committee (MANCOM) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), the Leadership Development Program was conducted to capacitate, learn leadership skills and styles, and further appreciate phronetic leadership and teamwork development of USTP’s top management and respective divisions.

The two-day leadership development program aimed to help university officials lead efficiently among their subordinates and colleagues and deliver the best services to the students and other stakeholders.

Mr. Mark Lemuel L. Garcia, Managing Director of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) – Mindanao, was invited to be the resource person for the two-day activity. In one segment of Mr. Garcia’s workshop, he emphasized “Ikigai,” which corresponds to the question: What is your reason for being? He let the participants point out a) what they love, b) what they are good at, c) what they can be paid for, and d) what the world needs. This exercise is an effective way to help the university’s top management to acknowledge and validate one’s capabilities and strengths as a leader.

The training and seminar was headed by the Office of the System President in coordination with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) – Mindanao, held on March 31 to April 1, 2022, at the Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort in Opol, Misamis Oriental.

USTP has been moving forward toward providing quality and excellent education to its students and giving out the best support and services to its stakeholders. It continues to do so by encouraging and capacitating the competent and driven leaders of the University to pursue lifelong learning.
