USTP Oroquieta BSIT students take international ICT competency assessment

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) administered the 14th Test of Practical Competency in Information and Communications Technology (TOPCIT) on July 23, 2026, at the USTP Oroquieta Computer Laboratory. The assessment provided incoming fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students with an opportunity to evaluate their practical competencies in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) using an internationally recognized assessment framework.
Prior to the examination, the students were oriented on the objectives, procedures, and significance of TOPCIT, which assesses practical knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills in software development and information technology. The examination was conducted in coordination with designated testing personnel and in accordance with established assessment guidelines.
The examination was provided free of charge, allowing eligible students to participate without additional financial cost. Participants will also receive official TOPCIT certificates reflecting their competency evaluation results, which may serve as an additional credential as they prepare for employment and professional opportunities.
Through the assessment, students were able to benchmark their competencies against international ICT standards and identify areas for further development. The results may also provide relevant information for curriculum enhancement and instructional improvement at USTP Oroquieta.
The initiative supports the University’s efforts to strengthen outcomes-based and industry-responsive education and prepare BSIT students for the evolving demands of the ICT sector.
