USTP Oroquieta faculty completes research immersion on emerging ICT technologies at UPOU

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) continues to strengthen faculty development and academic excellence as Mr. Hanes A. Ongos, faculty member of the BSIT Program, completed the Faculty Industry and Research Immersion Program held from July 6 to 24, 2026, at the Immersive Spatial Technology and Reality (ISTaR) Labs and Immersive Science Communication Open Laboratory (ISCOLab) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) in Los Baños, Laguna.
The immersion formed part of the campus’ commitment to enhancing faculty competencies in emerging information and communication technologies while supporting the BSIT Program’s compliance with CHED Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) and Level II AACCUP accreditation requirements.
During the three-week immersion, Mr. Ongos gained hands-on experience in immersive technologies, extended reality (XR), spatial computing, virtual reality (VR), digital twins, and immersive learning. He actively participated in research discussions, project development activities, laboratory meetings, and scholarly collaborations with faculty researchers, graduate students, and visiting scholars, providing valuable exposure to current research methodologies and technology-driven innovations.
The immersion also enabled Mr. Ongos to deepen his technical and research competencies through direct engagement with UPOU’s advanced facilities, software platforms, and ongoing research initiatives. The knowledge and practical experience acquired are expected to enrich classroom instruction, strengthen research initiatives, and support the development of innovative technology-based projects within the BSIT Program. Moreover, the activity fostered stronger academic and professional linkages between USTP Oroquieta and UPOU, paving the way for future collaborative research and innovation initiatives.
