USTP Oroquieta livelihood project earns recognition from Philippine Army

The Research, Innovation, and Extension Section of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) received a Plaque of Recognition during the 16th Activation Anniversary of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry (Magbalantay) Brigade, Armor Division, Philippine Army, on September 9, 2026, at its headquarters in Camp Sultan Badrodin, Barangay Maria Cristina, Iligan City.
The recognition highlighted USTP Oroquieta’s NUTRICARE extension program and Pan Bisaya Livelihood Training initiative, which provided livelihood skills training to 27 “Friends Rescued” (FRs), including former rebels and beneficiaries of the government’s End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) initiatives. Participants were trained in producing “Asenso Pan de Bisaya,” a food product developed by USTP Oroquieta, along with commercial baking, food safety, and basic financial costing.
Led by Ms. Ma. Liberty B. Doncillo, Head of the Research, Innovation, and Extension Section, the initiative was implemented in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the 10th Infantry Battalion (10IB). The program also received support from the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental through Governor Henry S. Oaminal, including the provision of the “Pan de Asenso Panaderya” facility at Balay Paglaum Village in Barangay Burgos, Oroquieta City.
Six months after the training, monitoring activities indicated that participants continued to apply the technical skills acquired through the program, supporting livelihood opportunities and household needs. USTP Oroquieta continues to provide technical assistance and explore market opportunities to support the sustainability of the initiative.
The recognition underscores USTP Oroquieta’s extension efforts in using skills training, institutional partnerships, and livelihood development to support community reintegration and sustainable economic opportunities.
