USTP Oroquieta provides livelihood skills training to Kauswagan residents through SIKAD

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) conducted a three-day community extension program under the Skills Innovation for Kauswagan Advancement and Development (SIKAD) initiative from June 17 to 19, 2026, in Barangay Tugar, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. The program provided community members with practical livelihood skills in value-added food processing using locally available resources. It began with a Food Handling and Food Safety Seminar, followed by hands-on training in Buko Tart Making and Bangus Empanada Making.
Mr. Florimel Mante facilitated the technical sessions, guiding participants on proper food preparation, processing techniques, quality control, and product presentation. The training provided participants with practical knowledge in transforming young coconut and milkfish into value-added food products with potential livelihood applications.
The SIKAD program was spearheaded by Ms. Maria Liberty B. Doncillo, who emphasized the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and value-adding in creating livelihood opportunities. The initiative encouraged participants to maximize available local resources while developing skills that may support income-generating activities.
Through SIKAD, USTP Oroquieta supports community-based skills development by providing practical knowledge in food processing, entrepreneurship, and livelihood development. The extension initiative contributes to the University’s efforts to connect academic expertise with the needs of communities and promote sustainable local development.
