Faculty members of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon), Ms. Darfe Mae D. Dando and Mr. Romulo S. Bomediano, participated in the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards (PFA) Mindanao Sub-National Competition held on July 28–29, 2026, at Aya Hotel and Residences in Ozamiz City.

Led by the National Innovation Council (NIC), the Presidential Filipinnovation Awards recognizes Filipino innovators whose ideas, technologies, products, and services contribute to national development. The Mindanao Sub-National Competition provided a regional platform for showcasing promising innovations and identifying potential entries for national recognition.

The two-day event featured learning sessions, presentations, and networking activities covering research and innovation, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, and startup development. It also brought together representatives from higher education institutions, government agencies, industry, and other innovation stakeholders to exchange knowledge and explore potential collaborations.

Through their participation, Ms. Dando and Mr. Bomediano gained insights and established professional connections relevant to future research, innovation, and extension initiatives at USTP Panaon. The event also provided opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from innovation practices across Mindanao.

The faculty members’ participation contributed to USTP Panaon’s continuing efforts to strengthen faculty engagement in innovation programs and advance research and technology initiatives responsive to community and industry needs.
