USTP Panaon showcases innovation and sustainability at RSTW sa ISLA 2026

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon) showcased student-developed technologies and sustainable product innovations at the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) sa ISLA, held from July 22 to 24 in Mambajao, Camiguin.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region X, the three-day event brought together researchers, innovators, government agencies, higher education institutions, and local entrepreneurs to exhibit technologies and innovations that support community and regional development.
Among USTP Panaon’s featured innovations was PELAGO (Precision Environmental Logger and Aquatic Graphical Observer), an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled remotely operated vehicle (ROV) developed by Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students for underwater exploration and environmental monitoring. The campus also presented Certilink, a web and mobile platform designed to streamline the processing and issuance of barangay certificates.
In addition to its technology-based innovations, USTP Panaon showcased sustainable food and environmental products that demonstrated the value-added use of locally available resources to address community needs and promote sustainability.
Representing USTP Panaon at the regional event were Christopher R. Balaba, Head of the Research, Innovation, and Extension Services; Gizelle John M. Tacas-tacas, CET Coordinator; Jenny Dela Cruz, Research Coordinator; Romulo S. Bomediano III; and the PELAGO development team composed of James Francis Mendoza, Paul B. Regalado, Wilson C. Navarez, Kim Adam Z. Blacer, and Janessa J. Sajulga.
USTP Panaon’s participation in RSTW sa ISLA 2026 highlighted the University’s continuing efforts to advance research, innovation, and technology development while promoting solutions that contribute to sustainable community and regional development.
