ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science is designed to produce and develop a broad array of experts and professionals to address environmental issues and systems, integrating human activities and his interactions with the environment and its impact to society (CMO-No.35-s2005). It is an interdisciplinary program of various sciences, such as
biology, chemistry, physics, earth & marine sciences, and mathematics, with practical modelling designs, and statistical tools to enhance potentials, and skills for the mitigation and solutions to environmental problems. It is allied to many fields particularly in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy and resource management, information systems, environmental design and planning, and environmental engineering and sanitation. Scientific method is considered as its principal framework to be applied in studying the environment. The proposed revised BS ES program uses extensively science-based technology protocols for environmental innovation and mitigation to reduce environmental problems and issues at the local, national and global levels.

The revised approved program has two majors/specialization namely, Environmental Management and Technology, (EMT) and Natural Resource Management (NRM) as it recognizes the critical role of our graduates, for the effective management of the environment, aim at minimizing and preventing pollution, and the application of technological solutions and at the same time, promoting for the wise utilization of our natural resources for the next generation to enjoy. The graduates of this program are expected to generate and contribute to science-based policies, natural resource management strategies and technology solutions in both fields of specialization. They will be trained to provide innovative measures and strategies to protect and sustain our environmental conditions at the different regions of sphere in order to increase productivity, and sustainability of our natural resources and to promote equitability of these resources for the present and future generations.

The BSES program provides global perspectives for environmental problems, concerns, and solutions that could be localized in the Philippine setting particularly in Mindanao with rich natural resources. Region 10 provinces such as Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental are homes of various ethnicity, culture and traditions and diverse and abundant terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. These natural resources are being utilized locally to produce ecosystem goods and services for the local, national and global populace. Hence, through science-based technologies, management strategies and policies, these natural resources can be used properly and that pollution to air, water and soil can be prevented and controlled to sustain these life support systems. The BS ES program provides an interdisciplinary approach to solve complex environmental problems and issues.
